Building the Foundations of Democratic Societies
The Democratic Foundations Division is dedicated to promoting the principles, institutions, and freedoms that form the basis of democratic, inclusive, and rights-respecting societies. At the Confederation for Democracy and Human Rights (CDDH), we believe that sustainable peace, justice, and development can only be achieved where human rights are respected, democratic governance is strengthened, the rule of law is upheld, and civic space remains open and protected. This Division brings together CDDH's core programmes that reinforce the foundations of democracy by advancing universal human rights, promoting transparent and accountable governance, strengthening independent justice systems, and protecting the fundamental freedoms that enable individuals and communities to participate fully in public life. Through research, advocacy, policy engagement, education, institutional support, and international cooperation, the Democratic Foundations Division contributes to building resilient institutions, empowering citizens, and promoting democratic values that foster equality, participation, accountability, and respect for human dignity.

Promoting and protecting the universality, indivisibility, and interdependence of all human rights while advancing equality, dignity, non-discrimination, and the protection of every individual.
Democracy & Good Governance
Strengthening democratic institutions, transparent governance, public accountability, integrity, citizen participation, and inclusive decision-making to promote effective and responsive governance.
Rule of Law & Justice
Advancing judicial independence, equal access to justice, legal reform, institutional accountability, and effective justice systems that uphold the rule of law.
Civic Space & Fundamental Freedoms
Protecting freedom of expression, freedom of peaceful assembly, freedom of association, media freedom, access to information, and meaningful civic participation in democratic societies.
Division Objective
