Voices of Courage

Honouring Courage. Preserving Memory. Inspiring Hope

Behind every human rights movement are individuals whose courage has challenged injustice, defended fundamental freedoms, and inspired hope in the face of adversity. Their experiences remind us that even in the most difficult circumstances, resilience, dignity, and determination can become powerful forces for change. Voices of Courage is the Confederation for Democracy and Human Rights (CDDH)'s dedicated platform for preserving and sharing the lived experiences of former political prisoners, political exiles, human rights defenders, journalists, lawyers, civic leaders, survivors of human rights violations, families, and communities affected by injustice. More than a collection of testimonies, Voices of Courage is a living archive of resilience, memory, and human dignity. It ensures that the voices of those who have experienced persecution, repression, discrimination, violence, or displacement continue to inform public understanding, strengthen advocacy, inspire solidarity, and contribute to lasting justice.

Every testimony honours the past, empowers the present, and helps build a more just future

Our Vision

We envision a world where every survivor is recognised with dignity, every courageous voice is respected, and every testimony contributes to truth, accountability, reconciliation, and the universal protection of human rights.

Our Mission

Voices of Courage seeks to:

- Preserve personal testimonies as part of our collective human rights memory.

- Amplify the voices of individuals and communities affected by human rights violations.

- Promote dignity, resilience, and hope through ethical storytelling.

- Humanise human rights advocacy by placing lived experiences at its centre.

- Support education, public awareness, and international advocacy.

- Inspire solidarity and action in defence of human rights and democratic values.

Why Voices of Courage Matters

Human rights are ultimately about people

Reports, legal decisions, statistics, and policy recommendations are essential for accountability, but they cannot fully express the emotional, social, and human consequences of injustice. Personal testimonies preserve experiences that might otherwise be forgotten. They reveal the realities behind arbitrary detention, torture, political persecution, exile, censorship, discrimination, conflict, and other human rights violations while reminding us of the extraordinary resilience of those who continue to defend freedom and justice. By preserving these voices with dignity and respect, CDDH contributes to historical memory, strengthens public understanding, promotes empathy, and reinforces the principle that every individual has the right to be heard.
